This is an exquisite hand-carved wooden Goddess Kuan Yin statue. This sculpture depicts a meditating Goddess Kuan Yin, seated on top of lotus blossom. Her right hand is position to a mudra chant while holding a scripture on her left. Goddess Kuan Yin is also commonly known as the Goddess of Mercy, is a bodhisattva, one who is qualified to enter nirvana, but chose to remain on earth to bring all to enlightenment. She is the embodiment of compassionate loving kindness. As the Bodhisattva of Compassion, She hears the cries of all beings. Statues of her stand in many Buddhist temples, and a woman who wants a child may pray to her. This masterpiece is carved entirely from a single block of wood to maintain the sculpture's integrity and quality. Goddess Kuan Yin's facial expression says it all - calmingly gentle, peaceful and tranquil. It's believed that by placing a Kuan Yin artifact will bless you with much joy, happiness and peace.
